Teslas are becoming one of the most common cars on the road. Tesla customers are now commonly protecting their cars with Paint Protection Film (PPF) due to the thin paint that comes from the factory.
Here at Zero2Sixty AutoLab, we are Tesla paint protection film experts. We have been working with Teslas since the early days of the Model S. We closely follow these electric vehicles and understand them well. Each model is unique (Model S, Model Y, Model 3, Model X, and Cybertruck) in their way and we are confident that your Tesla will be in great hands.
Reasons why tesla BENEFIT FROM paint protection film
There is a reason why Tesla is becoming one of the most sold vehicles in Southern California. This is especially true in Orange County where they are plentiful. Teslas are known for their great technology but in terms of the paint quality, this is where they fall behind. Tesla is known to have one of the thinnest paints in the automobile industry. Tesla paint ranges from .05mm – 4mm. Generally, most automobile manufacturers paint between 6mm – 15mm.
Below is a 2021 Tesla Model Y paint thickness.

Here are some great examples of rock chips on Tesla’s paint.
Below is a Model Y. As you can see, the rear doors were peppered sprayed with rock chips. It does not take much to see the base coat on the Tesla (white spots). The Tesla Model Y has front protruding tires, which means that it pushes back debris/rocks from the road onto the rear doors.

Below is a Tesla Model 3 from La Habra. As you can tell from the photo below, the rear panels are marked with chips.

The image below is the front bumper of a fairly new Tesla Model Y. As you can see, chips were able to penetrate the paint and show the plastic bumper. This is a common issue with most if not all Teslas. A thin paint coat means that road debris easily chips the paint to the raw metal/plastic.

This is the main reason why Teslas can greatly benefit from paint protection film. Paint Protection Film protects the paint as it adds a layer of protection for the paint. Depending on the PPF brand, PPF is 6.5 to 12 mils thick.
BENEFITS OF PAINT PROTECTION FILM FOR TESLA
Protects the paint:
As described, since the paint/clear coat is thin, PPF adds a layer of protection which ensures that the car looks new for the years to come.
The PPF also protects the paint/clear coat from environmental factors such as tree sap, bird droppings, and more.
Healing properties:
Paint Protection Film has healing properties. Unlike your standard clear coat on a vehicle, PPF is designed to self-heal from light scratches. This process is automatic and is achieved by heat from the sun
Maintain Tesla value:
With the paint integrity being preserved, this helps maintain the value of the car when it comes to resale. PPF can be easily removed if required.
Warranty on PPF:
All our PPF comes with a 10-year warranty. The warranty covers cracking, blistering, delamination, and discoloration.
